TIL coworking spaces here close for a three-hour lunch
I showed up all set and the door was LOCKED. Is this normal in some places?

Yeah, that totally tracks. Got the same surprise at a spot in Lisbon a few years back. Showed up ready to work after my own lunch, and the whole place was dark until 4pm. Ended up killing time at a pasteis de nata cafe, which wasn't the worst plan B, honestly. Their local hours just fully built around that long break.

Whoa, that's definitely not the norm in most places. Some coworking spots in regions with a strong siesta culture, like parts of southern Europe or Latin America, might close midday. You probably just need to check their specific local hours, which can be weirdly different from the standard 9-to-5 model.

Reading @owens.blair's story about Lisbon got me thinking about work breaks in a new way. What if those closed hours push people to step back and recharge instead of just pushing through? In lots of places, the heat midday makes working hard anyway, so closing up makes sense. It's a reminder that the 9-to-5 model isn't the only way to get things done. Maybe we're missing out by not trying more flexible setups elsewhere.
