Caught myself cutting drywall circles with a utility knife for years until a buddy showed me the keyhole saw trick

I was doing a ceiling patch in my basement in Pittsburgh and struggling to get the hole for a can light right. He handed me a $12 jab saw and I got it done in 30 seconds instead of 10 minutes. Anyone else waste time using the wrong tool for basic stuff like this?

Oh man, I feel this one hard. I spent way too many years using a regular drywall saw for everything including cutting out for outlets and switches. Then a buddy showed me the oscillating multi-tool trick. It cost me like 40 bucks at Harbor Freight and it cuts those little boxes out perfectly every time. No more chipping the drywall paper or fighting with a saw that wants to go crooked. I swear half the time we just get used to the struggle and don't even think about a faster way. It's like being in a bad relationship with a tool when the right one is right there at the store.

Totally agree with you. I was the same way for years with my drywall saw, just accepting torn edges and crooked cuts. Then my neighbor came over and whipped out his oscillating tool and had that outlet cut perfect in like 30 seconds. I felt so stupid for not trying it sooner. It's funny how we just get into a habit and don't stop to think there's a way easier way. Now I don't even mess with the manual saw for anything inside a wall.

Grabbed one of those oscillating tools after seeing my brother use it on a switch box and felt like an idiot for not buying it years ago. Makes me wonder what other simple stuff I'm still doing the hard way without realizing it.
