Found a cheap fix for squeaky stairs that actually works

Spent two weekends trying different fixes for my stairs in this 90s house - bought $40 worth of screws, tried powder, nothing stopped the squeak. Finally grabbed a tube of cheap construction adhesive and ran a bead between the tread and riser while my brother stood on each step. Anybody else got a hack they wish they'd found before wasting money on the fancy stuff?

Squeaky stairs aren't THAT big of a deal, just walk louder so you can't hear it. Seems like a lot of fuss over something that's not actually broken.

Actually you kind of changed my mind here. I used to get annoyed every time I hit that one creaky step on the way to the bathroom at 2am, but honestly I've been stomping around for weeks now and it does sort of drown it out. Neighbor downstairs hasn't complained yet either, so win-win I guess. Still wish the landlord would just shove some powder up in there though.
