Just realized Ive been painting trim wrong for 12 years
I was touching up some baseboards in my hallway last weekend and noticed the paint was peeling in these tiny little ridges. Turns out I never sanded between coats, I just slapped on a second layer right after the first dried. A buddy who does finishing work came over and pointed out that I need to sand with 220 grit and wipe down with a tack cloth every single time. He did one short section while I watched and the difference was night and day, smooth as glass. We spent 4 hours redoing my living room trim that I thought was fine. Has anyone else been skipping this step for years and just figured it out?

Sanding between coats just adds dust and time, and most people can't spot the difference once the paint dries anyway. You're basically making extra work for yourself for a finish that looks the same from any normal distance.
