Hot take: My $300 drafting table lamp was either a genius buy or a total waste.
It gives perfect light with no shadows, but my coworker says his $40 LED strip does the same job. Which side are you on?

Honestly, that's a tough one. The perfect light without shadows sounds amazing for detailed work, and a good tool is worth paying for. But a $40 strip doing the same basic job is hard to argue with. Sometimes you're paying for the feel of a solid, purpose-built thing, you know? Does the expensive lamp just make you happier to sit down and work?

Ever tried the cheap one first?

It's the whole "buy the tool once" thing. My grandpa spent crazy money on a single perfect hammer. We all laughed until we used it. That weight, that balance. The cheap one gets the job done. The right one makes the job feel different.
