Warning: that '1 hour joint compound' is a straight up lie
Had a homeowner stand over me last week asking why I couldn't sand after 45 minutes because the bucket said 'fast set'. Has anyone else run into people expecting magic from those labels?

Tell them to check the fine print on the bucket instead of the big bold marketing text. Joint compound needs the right temperature and humidity to set, so 45 minutes is basically asking for a disaster. A good rule of thumb is to wait double what the label says just to be safe.

Wait, "basically asking for a disaster"?? That's intense but I kinda believe it since drywall stuff is so picky. I can't imagine how fast those 45 minute buckets actually set if you don't get the temp just right. Definitely gonna tell my buddy to ignore the big text and read the fine print like you said.
