The 40 minute 'detox' foot bath that turned my bathwater brown

I tried one of those ionic foot bath machines at a wellness fair in Portland, the vendor swore it pulled toxins out through my feet. After 40 minutes the water turned murky brown and she called it proof, but I checked the same machine with plain tap water and zero feet, same brown sludge. So is that color actually oxidized metal from the electrodes, or did I just pay $25 to watch rust form?

Wait, are we really fighting over whether magic water can suck poison out of your feet? That machine basically showed you its whole trick by accident, and the fact that it made the same brown muck with no feet in it should be the end of this whole conversation. You paid 25 bucks to watch two pieces of metal rust in a bowl, which is honestly kind of funny when you think about it. The real mystery is why anyone still believes this stuff in 2024, when a quick Google search would've shown you the same demo 100 times before. Save your money next time, hydrate with some actual water, and let your liver do the detox work it's been doing for free your whole life.

Guess my feet are just really good at making dirty water look like iced tea, which is a talent I never asked for. I even tried it a second time at home with some sketchy machine I bought online, hoping the brown was real, but nope, just metal bits doing their thing. At this point I've spent more money watching electrodes rust than I have on actual rust remover, which says a lot about my decision making. Maybe my liver is sitting back laughing at me while it does all the real work for free. At least the vendor got a good story out of me, the lady who paid to watch science fail in slow motion.
