I used to laugh at people buying those $40 thermal cameras for their phones, but diagnosing a short on a 2018 MacBook logic board last month completely changed my mind.
I finally caved and bought one after a tech in Denver swore by his, and pinpointing the exact overheated capacitor in under 30 seconds saved me from a pointless board swap.

Yeah but those cheap ones can be really hit or miss... my friend got one and it was basically a toy, couldn't read anything useful. You really need to check the specs on the sensor or you're just paying for a colorful screen. Kinda feels like a lot of them are just cashing in on the cool factor.
