I finally saw the difference between service and modernization crews on the same old Otis today
Walked into a 1970s office tower in downtown Austin where the service guys had been patching the same door operator for 15 years, then the mod crew came in last week and swapped the whole thing in 3 days flat. Which side is actually saving the client more money in the long run - the patch-and-keep-running approach or the full rip-and-replace? Genuinely curious what you all think.

Man, you're asking the real question here! I've seen both sides and honestly the service guys are just kicking the can down the road. That patch job might work for a while but you're paying a premium every time they have to fix it again. The mod crew comes in, rips it all out, and you're good for another 20 years with less breakdowns. The client might not see the savings upfront but the downtime and emergency calls add up fast. Sometimes you just gotta rip the bandaid off and do it right the first time.

Went with the full rip out on my own setup last year and haven't had a single issue since. Best move I made.

Did the company actually try to talk you out of the full rip out at first? A lot of times they push for patches because it keeps you coming back for more service calls. Just curious how hard you had to push to get them to agree.
