My friend Steve over at the plant said their old furnace backfired last Tuesday. It sent this nasty, burnt plastic smell through the whole west wing. They had to evacuate for like an hour while the crew figured it out. Turns out some insulation had melted onto a heating coil. That chemical stink stuck in his clothes all day. He said it was exactly like a blown transformer smell, just way stronger inside the building.
