I just remembered how Friday afternoons were for catching up on bills

It hit me the other day how I used to handle my freelance stuff. I would set aside Friday afternoons just for sorting out invoices and paying what I owed. It was quiet, no interruptions, and I could finish everything in a couple of hours. These days, I'm always getting pinged with messages or emails, so I try to do bits here and there. But it never feels done, and I miss deadlines sometimes. That old method really helped me keep my cash flow steady. I think I need to go back to that system.

I mean the whole Friday afternoon block sounds nice in theory. But idk if that would work for me anymore. My brain is totally fried by Friday, and if a bill comes in on Tuesday, waiting feels like I'm asking to forget it. Maybe it's just me but I have to deal with stuff the same day I see it, even if it's just a two minute thing between pings.

Same. Totally get that. The Friday fade is real.

Actually, the risk with doing every two minute task right away is it trains your brain to jump at every ping. I found that even tiny interruptions wreck my focus for the bigger stuff. So I might note the bill on Tuesday, but saving it for Friday keeps me in the zone for actual work now.

Man, I never thought about the mental tax. You're doing bits here and there, but every unpaid bill sitting in your inbox is like a tiny open loop your brain keeps checking on. So you might handle a Tuesday invoice, but the three others still pending are quietly eating up focus all week. That Friday block wasn't just for getting it done, it was for closing all those loops at once and freeing your head up. Letting Monday's invoice just exist until Friday meant you could actually ignore it and focus on work.
