I finally managed a clean transfer on a big vase after a chat at the Portland studio

I was struggling with a 15 inch vase last month, always getting a wobble when moving it from the pipe to the punty. An older guy named Leo, who was renting bench space, saw me fumble and just said, 'Heat the punty tip more than you think, then wait a full two seconds before you touch.' I tried it exactly like that and the piece stuck on smooth as anything. Has anyone else got a simple trick that fixed a basic move for them?

Wait, isn't a punty the same as a pipe? I thought you just called the second rod a punty. Or is that the first one?

That actually makes way more sense now.

Oh wow, that totally cleared it up for me too. I always mixed them up and just called the whole thing the pipe. So the first rod you gather the glass on is the pipe, and the second one you attach for the handle is the punty. That makes way more sense for how they talk about transferring the piece.
