My neighbor used a box black over her highlights last summer and it turned muddy green. It's like how skipping steps to save time usually creates a bigger mess in the end.

Yeah patch testing is key every time, even when you're sure. Like last week someone had orange roots from a box black over faded red, did a test strand with a level 7 ash to see if it would grab too gray. Saved us from a bigger mess. For those weird green tones from fading blue, a direct dye remover or a clarifying shampoo soak works better than piling on more color. And always explain the aftercare, like sulfate-free shampoo and cold water rinses, or they'll be back in two months lol.

My friend tried to fix her own brassy blonde with a box dye and it went patchy green. Her stylist did a test strand first, then used a color remover gently over two sessions. Now she swears by pro help and proper purple shampoo.

Ugh, I tried that once and my hair looked like a moldy avocado... good on @parkers21's friend for getting a pro to fix it.
