Saw folks hiking a washed-out trail despite the warnings

Should we always respect closures or is sometimes risking it worth it?

Saw a news story about a guy who got stuck on a closed trail in Utah, the rescue cost taxpayers like ten grand lol. Really makes you wonder if any view is worth that.

But honestly, people never think about the rescue crews. If you twist your ankle out there on a closed trail, you're not just risking yourself. You're forcing a team of volunteers or rangers to risk their necks to come save you from a situation that was already deemed unsafe. That's a huge drain on resources and puts other lives in real danger just because you wanted to ignore a sign. It's pretty selfish when you look at it that way.

I read that Yosemite rangers did over 250 rescues last year, and a bunch were for people on closed trails. It really shows how much extra work it creates when folks ignore warnings.

Closed trail rescues, @thomas441, mean lawsuits and wasted cash.
