My dad swore the envelope method was outdated but I finally tried it last month

He said no one uses cash for bills anymore, but I put $200 for groceries in an envelope and actually stuck to it. The visual of the cash disappearing stopped me from impulse buying snacks at checkout. Has anyone else had an old tip work better than the apps?

Just hit 200 job applications this month and actually got a callback

I've been sending out resumes like crazy since January after my old company shut down. This week I cracked 200 applications total and finally got a real interview lined up for Friday. It's a marketing coordinator gig at a local firm in Denver that I applied to back in February. I honestly thought I'd be stuck in the spam folder forever. Has anyone else had to send out that many before landing something solid?

Warning: I lost a whole day's pay on a 'quick' panel swap in Tacoma because I didn't check the main feed first.

The homeowner said the old Federal Pacific panel was just buzzing, so I quoted a straight swap. Got the new Square D Homeline in, went to kill the main, and found the utility's overhead service drop was so corroded it started arcing when I touched it. Had to call for an emergency disconnect, wait 4 hours for the power company, and eat the labor cost. Has anyone else gotten burned by not doing a full service check before even giving a quote?

Just had a customer fight me on why I needed to drill through their crown molding for a hardwired smoke detector

Been there fixing this exact issue for a neighbor last month. Their smoke detector was hanging by one screw and a strip of packing tape, so I just drilled a proper hole and used a toggle bolt to secure it into the drywall. Took ten minutes and saved them from having it fall down at 3am and scaring the cat half to death. Battery powered ones work fine if you mark the change date right on the calendar with a big red circle, but that mounting has to be solid. You ever see one of those detectors come loose and start false alarming every time the furnace kicks on?
