I finally figured out how to stop my pour over from stalling

My V60 brews kept getting stuck for months, making the coffee taste bitter. Last Tuesday, I switched from a super fine grind to a coarser one, about like sea salt. I also poured the water slower, in a steady circle, not all at once. The water flowed right through and the coffee tasted way cleaner. Anyone have a different fix for a clogged filter?

I'm convinced the 'perfect' pour over is a myth we all chase

Spent a whole month trying to dial in a light roast from Ethiopia, following all the popular advice about grind size and water temp. I must have brewed over 30 cups, each one tasting either too sour or weirdly flat. The fix was embarrassingly simple: I just started pouring slower, taking almost 4 minutes total, and it clicked. Has anyone else had a brew method that everyone swears by just not work until you broke the rules?

A customer at the county fair asked me to fix his great-grandfather's hammer

He brought it to my demo booth last fall. The handle was split and the head was loose. I told him I could wedge a new hickory handle in about twenty minutes. While I worked, he told me his grandpa used it in a railroad shop in Chattanooga. Made me think about the tools we keep using. Anyone ever had a repair job come with a story like that?

Why does nobody talk about the 30-day late payment rule with credit repair housing?

I mean, I kept seeing people in my local Omaha group trying to buy a house while a 30-day late was still on their report from 3 months ago, and they kept getting denied. My loan officer told me most lenders need to see at least 6 months of perfect payments after a late before they'll even look at you for a special program. Has anyone else had a lender confirm this specific timeline?

TIL my $40 'bullet journal kit' was a total waste of cash

I saw a fancy ad for a kit with a stencil, special ruler, and tiny washi tapes. Bought it thinking it would make my spreads perfect. Used the stencil once and the ruler is just a normal ruler but pink. Honestly, my favorite pages are still the ones I just doodle in with a regular pen. Anyone have a cheap tool that actually helped their bujo game?

I was at the museum in Boston and a kid asked me something that made me see an old pot differently

I was looking at this plain clay pot from a dig in Turkey, maybe 3000 years old, and a boy next to me, maybe 8, asked his dad if the person who made it was left-handed. The dad said he didn't know, but it got me thinking about the tiny fingerprints still in the clay. I mean, I always look for the big story in finds, but now I look for the person. Has anyone else had a small question change how you see an artifact?

My sourdough starter finally came back to life after a week in the fridge

I forgot about it for almost 10 days and it looked totally dead, just a gray liquid on top. On a whim, I fed it with some rye flour from that little mill in Red Hook and left it on the counter. Two days later, it had doubled and smelled amazing, better than it ever has. Has anyone else had a starter seem to die and then come back stronger?
