A bookie in Vegas gave me a betting tip that changed how I check my plumbing
Last year a guy I know from the sportsbook told me to always check the water pressure regulator before calling a plumber. He said most leaks are actually pressure issues. I laughed it off, but when my bathroom faucet started dripping nonstop in March, I remembered his advice. I bought a $12 gauge, tested it, and the pressure was at 95 psi. The house next door had the same problem and paid $180 for a service call. I turned the screw down to 60 and the drip stopped that same day. Has anyone else gotten useful home repair tips from an unlikely source?

Same thing happened to me, had a drip under my kitchen sink for weeks and figured I needed a new faucet. Checked the pressure first with one of those little gauges you screw on the hose bib and it was pushing close to 100. Turned the regulator screw a quarter turn at a time til I hit around 60, took maybe ten minutes, and the drip quit by dinner. Those regulators do go bad over time too, so if yours wont hold steady at 60 or keeps creeping back up, just swap the whole thing. They run like 40 to 60 bucks at any hardware store and its a pretty easy job if you got a wrench and some tape.
