Hit 1,000 followers on my niche meme page 6 months after the trend died

I had to choose between pivoting to whatever new trend was popping or sticking with the old niche content that got me the first 100 followers. I stuck with it and the engagement is way higher now even though the numbers are smaller, has anyone else found that dying trends actually build better communities?

And it's the same with anything that slows down long enough for real conversations to happen, like old forums or local hobby groups that never got big because the real connections are always in the quiet corners.
