The "odd time signatures" shortcut that broke my guitar block

and honestly that's so real. i got completely sick of 4/4 after like a year of just strumming the same campfire chords, then i tried learning "Money" by Pink Floyd in 7/4 and it totally rewired my brain. now i'll write a verse in 6/8 and switch to 4/4 for the chorus just to keep things interesting. tbh it's less about being a show-off and more about forcing your ear to hear new patterns so you stop defaulting to the same old stuff. glad i'm not the only one who went through that phase.

That elderly client who told me she felt like a movie star after I did her eyebrows

I see it a little different though. Maybe she wasn't being overlooked, maybe she just never cared about brows until that moment, you know? Some people live their whole lives without wanting that kind of attention on their face and they're perfectly content.

My kid asked why we dig up old stuff and it threw me

Wait, but doesn't that make it even harder to explain? Like, if you tell an 8-year-old that we're saying "we see you" to a stranger who's been dead for 2000 years, isn't that almost creepier than just finding a plate? I'm genuinely asking because my nephew asked me the exact same thing last week and I froze. How do you sell the idea of caring about a person you'll never meet and who has no connection to your life at all? It's not like family history where you can point to a grandma's china set.

I finally gave up on marble tile after talking to a plumber in Denver

I saw @susan81's post and the part about "a nice old tile setter talked me out of it at the supply house" really hit home. I just want to gently push back on keith274 saying his marble backsplash looks perfect after four years though. I'm not saying you're wrong but marble can look fine for a while if you baby it and never let anything acidic near it. The problem is most of us don't realize how many everyday things like tomatoes, wine, lemon juice, even some cleaning sprays are slowly eating away at the polish. I've seen marble backsplashes that look amazing for five years then suddenly you catch a water spot or a drip in the wrong light and it's permanently dull. It's not like you can just resurface a backsplash easily either since it's stuck to the wall. So yeah you might have a good one keith274 but for most people it's a ticking clock with marble.

Vent: Burned $75 on mesh tape that wouldn't stick worth a damn

That mesh tape is honestly a nightmare for drywall joints. I tried it once on a ceiling repair and ended up peeling half of it off in frustration. The only time it ever worked for me was when I used it strictly for patching holes, not for long seams. For taping joints, paper tape with a thin pre-coat of mud underneath saved me so much headache. You gotta really press that paper into the wet mud and let it set before the next coat. A little trick I learned was to mist the paper tape with a spray bottle right before applying it, keeps it from bubbling up. Have you ever tried that approach or are you just done with the whole mess?
