That viral cake decorating trend had me making ugly cakes for 6 months
I kept seeing those smooth buttercream cakes all over Instagram so I spent $60 on a new turntable and scrapers. After half a year of frustration I realized the trick was just using a hot spatula the whole time. Nobody in those videos ever said they were melting the buttercream first. Has anyone else fallen for an editing trick that made a simple thing look impossible?

Oh man, that hot spatula trick would've saved me so many tears. @amy_martin is right, those cereal ads are pure deception. Glad you figured it out though, those smooth cakes are brutal to learn alone.

Whoa wait, they use actual glue for the milk in cereal ads? That's wild. I had no idea they went that far with the fake stuff. @amy_martin that honestly makes me feel a little better about my ugly cakes though, at least I was using real ingredients. Those food stylists are basically running a whole different operation behind the scenes.

Read somewhere that food stylists use glue for milk in cereal ads, total scam artists.
