My coworker's 10 minute demo made me dump my whole AI pipeline

He showed me how he used a local model to sort his emails in under 2 minutes. I had been spending hours tweaking a cloud API for the same thing. It hit me that simpler tools can handle most of what I need. Has anyone else found a tiny model that replaced their big setup?

Saw a dev on Mastodon last week who ditched GPT for a tiny 7B model running on his laptop. He was using it to summarize his inbox and generate basic to-do lists. Said it saved him like $40/month on API bills and was actually faster for simple tasks. I tried that same trick with my own email sorting and it handled 90% of what I needed. The cloud stuff is overkill for most people, honestly.

My toaster has more computing power than I use for 90% of my day.

I saw that Mastodon post too and it felt like a lot of hype for something that's really not that big of a deal. People act like running a tiny model on your laptop is this huge life hack, but honestly, my phone's calculator app does more for me in a day than any AI summary tool. The whole "ditching the cloud" thing sounds cool but most people I know just click unsubscribe on emails they don't want and write their own to-do lists on a sticky note. It's not like we're all drowning in email chaos that needs a personal AI butler to sort out.
