Frozen fries vs fresh cut, I'm team frozen now

Tbh I used to judge anyone who threw frozen fries in the air fryer, thought it was lazy. Last month my buddy in Austin convinced me to try a bag of the cheap crinkle cut kind just for game day. I went with the fresh cut russets I prepped myself, soaked them, dried them, oiled them, the whole deal. Meanwhile he tossed the frozen ones in at 400 for 12 minutes and shook them twice. His came out way crispier on the outside and fluffy inside, mine were decent but took 30 minutes and still had some soggy spots. I've done three more batches of frozen since then, swapped to a mid price brand with less salt. Has anyone else given up on the fancy prep for the simpler bag route?

That whole thing tracks with how I've been feeling about cooking lately. Like I used to hand grate cheese for everything, then I tried the bagged shreds for a lazy taco night and honestly couldn't tell the difference once it melted. Same with chopping garlic vs the jar stuff, sure the fresh smells better but the jar is fine when you're just throwing dinner together on a Tuesday. It's like we all got sold on this idea that harder equals better, but half the time our own taste buds don't even care. The shortcut isn't cheating, it's just using the tool that fits how much energy you actually have that day.
