Hot take: I spent 3 years mounting panels too high until a homeowner in a wheelchair called me out on it.

I was up on the ladder thinking I was being slick hiding it near the ceiling, but she couldn't reach the keypad to arm the system, and I felt like a total jerk for never thinking about that before.

That "Good on her for speaking up" part is the whole thing. I had a buddy who installs alarm systems too, and he told me about this elderly guy who couldn't reach the touchscreen because he had it way up by the door frame. The customer just never said anything for months, just struggled with it every day until his daughter noticed and called my buddy out. He felt so bad he went back and lowered it for free, no charge. Really makes you think about who's actually going to use the stuff we put in, you know?

Yeah that "makes you think" part really got me. I used to just assume people would speak up if something wasn't working for them, but I guess a lot of folks just try to deal with it and never say a word.

That's rough. Good on her for speaking up though.
