The old installer who told me to always pull a second run of wire even if the panel has spare zones, 18 years in and he was right
Back when I was green, a guy named Dale who had been doing this since the 80s told me on a Tuesday install in Rockford to always pull one extra run to the attic while I was already up there. I thought it was a waste of wire and time, since the panel had 4 open zones and the homeowner swore they were done adding stuff. Two years later that same lady wanted a glass break in the back hallway and a water sensor by the sump, and I had the wire sitting right there. Same thing happened at a shop in Aurora last spring, I had pulled a spare for a future keypad and the owner added a second floor office 11 months later. Dale also told me to label both ends with a sharpie before drywall goes up, which saved me about 3 hours of buzzing out a wall last week. Curious if anyone else pulls spare runs on every job or if I am just burning wire on a hunch.
