Why I stopped trusting zone maps and started walking the building myself
Last Tuesday I was at a 12,000 sq ft warehouse in Gary, Indiana, and the zone map the previous company left showed the motion detector in the northeast corner covering the whole racking area. I mounted a sensor per the map and did a walk test, and it only caught motion out to about 18 feet before the racks blocked the rest. So I pulled the map, grabbed my ladder, and spent 90 minutes walking the aisles to find the real blind spots. I ended up adding two more sensors and moving one, and the client's insurance guy thanked me because his last inspection flagged gaps. The old map was drawn from a desk, not from standing on the floor. Does anyone else sketch their own coverage before mounting, or am I the only one who quit trusting the paperwork?
