Our ice machine conked out during dinner rush and I nearly lost it

Keeping bagged ice as backup is smart but that freezer space is precious in a small diner. I started rotating a few bags of ice in our walk-in freezer every week after a similar breakdown. The real trick is staying on top of that monthly cleaning schedule like it's a bill you can't ignore. Set a phone reminder or put it on a laminated checklist by the machine so nobody forgets. Also consider getting a spare compressor fan motor off Amazon for under 50 bucks, the repair guy showed me how to swap it in ten minutes. Have you thought about keeping a small parts kit for your most temperamental equipment?

Spent $150 on a used oscilloscope from eBay last week...

Funny timing, I actually picked up an old HP scope at a garage sale for twenty bucks a few years back. Turned out the horizontal sweep was all mangled because some kid had been poking at the front panel with a screwdriver. A quick look inside showed the main timing cap was just loose on the board, reflowed the solder and it came right back to life.

PSA: Stop using manufacturer wiring diagrams as gospel on older machines

My buddy Dave had an old Maytag where the diagram showed 4 wires but 6 were actually in there.

Dropped $500 on a high-end bidet attachment last year and it's been a game changer for my morning routine

Jumped on a similar deal last winter and honestly it's the BEST purchase I've made for my bathroom. The heated seat is a LIFESAVER in the morning when it's cold out and I'm barely awake. I was worried about the whole learning curve but after like two days it felt totally normal. My only regret is not getting one sooner, especially since I've cut my TP usage down by a ton.
