My coworker Deb said her Facebook feed showed her a baby blanket post 8 times in one afternoon

She told me she never clicked on baby stuff before, so I checked her profile and realized she had been watching a friend's pregnancy updates - the algorithm saw that as baby interest and just went HAM. Has anyone else seen this kind of over-correction where a tiny signal turns into a flood of the same topic?

Yeah I had this exact thing happen. I searched for a friend's baby shower invite once to find the address. For two weeks straight my feed was full of diaper deals and nursery furniture. It was insane. I had to go into my ad preferences and manually tell Facebook I don't have kids. That finally stopped it. But it took like a month for the baby content to fully go away. The algorithm really just latches onto any tiny hint and runs with it.

My cousin actually loves those targeted ads, says they save her time shopping.

See I kinda like that about algorithms though. It's not like they're psychic or anything, they're just trying to be helpful based on what they pick up, even if it's clumsy. I'd rather have too many relevant ads than random ones I'll never click on, you know?
