My editor in 2019 said stop chasing trending sounds, just post what you actually care about. Then one of my boring videos hit 2 million views and a trending one did nothing.

So the algorithm basically looked at your editor's advice and said "yeah, sure, whatever you say" before doing the exact opposite. That has to feel like a sick joke after you spent all that time trying to crack the trending code. The funny part is the video you probably threw together without much thought is the one that blew up, while the one you stressed over did nothing. Guess the lesson is nobody knows anything and we are all just guessing out here. Your editor gets to take the win on this one though, even if it was mostly luck.
