Reading anime forum posts taught me to watch for color schemes

I kept seeing threads argue about plot holes in my favorite shows. But nobody ever talked about how the colors in scenes made me feel a certain way. So I began looking at anime with a focus on their visual tones, and it added a whole layer for me. Now I try to find comments that point out stuff about the art. Why do you think visual details get left out of talks so often?

Actually, visual stuff gets talked about a lot, just maybe not in plot hole threads. People deep dive on color all the time for directors like Makoto Shinkai or studios like Kyoto Animation, where it's a huge deal. It might just be that in general story talks, folks get stuck on what happened instead of how it looked. Those art-focused comments are out there, but you sometimes have to find the right boards or video essays that care more about craft than story logic.

Yeah that's fair about Shinkai and KyoAni getting those deep dives. But do you think it's just their super flashy style that forces people to notice, or is there a certain fan culture around those creators that's already primed to talk visuals over plot?

Tbh, it's not just flashy style forcing people to notice. Like @rileyprice said, visual deep dives happen in lots of fan spaces, not just specific boards.

Look at the actual fan spaces. They're already full of people picking apart color and light in all kinds of shows, not just the flashy ones. The conversation is happening, just not always where you're looking.
