The "skip the filler" advice from a random redditor wrecked my rewatch

So last month some guy in a thread said to skip episodes 8-10 of that mecha show because they were just recap filler. I trusted it since they seemed confident and saved me 3 hours. Turns out those episodes had the whole backstory for the main antagonist, so I had zero idea why the finale hit so hard. I went back and watch them anyway, and now I'm mad at both the redditor and myself. Anyone else got burned by skipping advice that sounded too convenient?

...and honestly that's on the community as much as it is on that one guy. People love to feel like experts by telling others what to skip, but half the time they're just repeating what they heard without checking if it's actually filler. The real kicker is that "filler" in a lot of shows, especially mecha, is where they sneak in all the character motivation and world building that makes the action mean something. You skip that and you're basically watching a highlight reel of explosions with no emotional stakes. I've learned to only trust skip lists from people who can explain why an episode is skippable, not just say "trust me bro." And if they can't give you a specific reason like "it's a clip show with new narration" then you keep watching. Sucks that you had to learn the hard way, but at least now you know to double check before sacrificing those three hours. What was the show, by the way?

Gotta agree with @wren_mitchell, the community really does the heavy lifting here. I got burned once skipping episodes in a show because everyone said they were boring, then found out later they set up the entire emotional payoff for the final arc. Now I just watch everything and only skip if it's literally a recap episode, and even then I check the wiki first to see if there's new footage.
