Can we talk about the time a washer almost took my finger in Columbus?
I was pulling a sock out of a spinning drum at a customer's place off High Street in Columbus, and that thing grabbed my knuckle before I got the lid up. Now I kill the breaker and wait 30 seconds before I touch anything, no matter how rushed the call is. How do you all handle impatient customers who want you to skip the lockout?
Quick correction on one thing: waiting 30 seconds after killing the breaker is not a lockout. A real lockout means the breaker gets tagged and the plug gets locked out or controlled so nobody can flip it back on while your hands are inside the machine.
Waiting is just a habit, and habits fail when you're rushed. It works right up until someone walks by and resets the breaker because they think it tripped. Do both if you want, but the tag and lock are the part that actually protects you.
For impatient customers, blame the insurance and the rules. Say the ticket doesn't get closed without the lockout done, and you can't sign off on it anyway. Most people calm down once it sounds like paperwork instead of you being slow.
