DAE have a mentor say 'never quote over the phone' and then lose a $400 job because of it?
Back when I was green, my old lead tech Ray in Dayton told me to never give a price over the phone, always go out and look first. Well, a lady called about her dryer not heating and I stuck to Ray's rule, told her I had to come out to quote it. She hung up and called the next guy on the list, who told her it was probably the thermal fuse and gave her a ballpark on the spot. She went with him and I sat in my truck feeling like an idiot over a $400 job I never even got to bid on. How do you all handle phone quotes without getting burned?
