Showerthought: I was at a supply house in Tacoma and heard a tech say he never uses a multimeter on a dryer motor.

He told his buddy, 'If the drum spins by hand, the motor windings are probably fine, just check the thermal fuse and belt first.' I tried it on a Whirlpool dryer job yesterday and it saved me like 20 minutes of testing. Has anyone else found a quick check like that for common calls?

That trick works on a lot of appliances honestly, saves so much time.

Ever try that trick on a toaster and just make it angry, @phoenix78? I think I broke mine.

Oh man, that dryer trick is a lifesaver. I felt like a genius the first time I tried it, right up until I used the same logic on a washing machine pump. Spun smooth as butter by hand, so I replaced the whole motor... turned out it was just a clogged coin trap. I wasted an hour and looked like a total rookie. Sometimes the quick check works a little too well on my ego.
