Told a customer I'd be done by 2, showed up at 4, and his note taped to the door changed how I quote jobs
Guy in his 70s, fridge not cooling, I blocked out the morning for it. Nothing went right. The thing had a bad relay, then the new relay blew a fuse, then the defrost drain was packed solid with ice and I had to thaw it with a hair dryer for 40 minutes.
He left a note on the door that just said: "Was going to tip you. Left at 3 for my card game. Tip is gone."
I laughed on the way home but he was right. Now I quote every job in windows, not clock times. "Between 8 and 11" instead of "by 10." Fewer angry calls, and people actually stay home instead of leaving when I'm late.
Any of you quote windows? I got tired of apologizing for stuff I couldn't predict.
That note is brutal but fair, and honestly the guy leaving for his card game at 3 makes total sense. Quoting windows has saved me a ton of grief too, nobody can predict a packed drain or a blown fuse.
