Unpopular opinion: I gave up the meter and check amps by feel now
Three months back I was on a dryer call in Mesa and my Fluke 117 died mid-diagnosis, so I pulled the element leads and just watched how the drum spun up on start. Now I skip the clamp most days and listen for the relay click plus the heat ramp instead of chasing numbers. It bit me once on a bad thermal fuse last month, so I still grab the meter when the symptoms don't line up. Anybody else lean on their ears more than their tools, or am I getting lazy in my old age?
