Dropped $180 on a battery pole saw for limbing oaks and it binds up every third cut
The chain grabs and stalls on anything over 4 inches, and I've already burned through two bars on it. Should I just eat the loss and go back to a gas top handle, or is there a bar and chain combo that actually fixes this?
Ugh, this is the classic electric pole saw problem and its all about chain speed and torque, not the bar. Those saws spin way slower than gas so the chain can't clear chips fast enough in hardwood, which is why it grabs and stalls past 4 inches. A skip tooth chain (like a low profile 3/8) helps a ton because fewer cutters means bigger gaps for the chips to fall out, and bumping up to a narrow kerf bar will cut down friction too. Also check your rakers, if they're filed too low the chain bites way too hard and chokes the motor on every bigger cut.
