Finally got my first big crane removal right
Had a massive dead oak in a tight backyard in Portland last week. The crane operator and I had to do a 60 foot pick over the house. First time I was the main climber on a job this size. We set the sling at the perfect balance point and the piece swung clean over the roof without touching a thing. Felt amazing to see it all come together smooth. Anyone else remember their first tricky crane job?

Oh come on, it's not THAT big of a deal. I mean yeah it's a crane job and all but you make it sound like you landed a plane on a carrier deck or something. It's just setting a sling right and letting the crane do the heavy lifting.

Yeah "just setting a sling right" until you watch a buddy of mine drop a 2-ton beam because the sling shifted an inch and the whole load twisted sideways. That "easy" crane work gets real humbling when something goes wrong.

Seems like you haven't seen a rigging fail up close yet.
