My climbing saddle buckle sheared off 30 feet up a white oak in Raleigh last Tuesday

I was halfway through a removal, had my chainsaw hanging and everything. The buckle on my Weaver coupla just snapped. No warning. I luckily had my lanyard tight plus a second attachment point so I didn't fall. But man I sat there for a solid minute just breathing. Got down, swapped saddles, finished the job. Now I'm checking every buckle and stitch on my gear before I even load the truck. Anyone else ever had hardware fail on them mid-climb?

Check the date code on that buckle, was it from before the recall or after?

I remember reading that Weaver had a recall on some buckles last year, might be worth checking.

Oh man, that reminds me of the time I bought a whole batch of buckles from a different brand and half of them snapped on the first real trail ride. Had to replace them all in a hurry and it cost me way more than I planned. Definitely worth double checking those recall lists before you spend any money.
