Swapped my 30-ton truck for a mini skid in tight yards

Used to drag my big chipper into every backyard in Portland, tore up lawns and fences left and right. Tried a 1,500-pound mini skid with a chipper attachment last spring for a row of Norway maples near a fence line. Now I won't go back on narrow lots, but is anyone else taking heat from clients about the smaller equipment looking cheap?

Man, who cares what the clients think? They see a smaller machine and suddenly think you're cutting corners, but they don't see the mess you avoid. A torn up lawn costs way more in the long run than a slightly smaller machine in the driveway. If they're really that worried about looks, maybe they should try fitting a 30-ton truck between their fence and their rose bushes lol. Honestly, half the time clients just need something to complain about and the equipment size is an easy target. You do the job clean and fast, that's what matters at the end of the day.

You do the job clean and fast, that's what matters" is exactly right. I've seen guys show up with the big machine and tear up half the yard just to look impressive. Client sees the fancy truck and nods, then spends the next month crying about the ruts. Small machine, less damage, done right. That's the whole game.
