Tried leaving my ropes coiled overnight in the truck bed instead of hanging them

Last summer I left my climbing lines coiled up in the bed of my truck for a week straight during a big job in Raleigh. They got stiff and took on this weird smell I couldn't shake. Has anyone else had luck with a specific storage method that keeps ropes from getting beat up?

Wait, a whole week in the truck bed? You're kidding me.

Throwing them in a loose coil and hanging them on a big hook in the garage stopped mine from getting funky. The truck bed traps heat and moisture, bad for the nylon.

Had a buddy who did the same thing after his straps got that mildew smell so bad you could smell them from across the job site. He tried wiping them down with vinegar and water but it never really went away. Finally he just hung them loose on a couple of big nails in his shed and left them there for a week. They dried out completely and honestly he says they smell better now than when he bought them. No more musty truck bed funk at all.
