Talking to my friend's kid about a dinosaur dig made me see things differently

He asked me why we only dig up the 'big cool stuff' and not the tiny everyday things, and now I'm wondering if we're missing the real story by always looking for the big find.

Missing the real story? It's just dirt and bones, man. They find plenty of small stuff too.

People forget how much we learn from broken pottery and trash piles. The real story is in what got thrown away, not just what got buried on purpose. What does it say about daily life when you find a hundred fish bones but only one fancy cup?

Avery_flores, that dirt tells us what people actually ate.
