I mean I always figured speed was king but after he made me slow down and watch the soot fall I realized I was leaving a good 20% behind. Has anyone else adjusted their technique after a grumpy veteran called them out?

Friend told me to slow down and actually watch the credits

I used to fly through shows, clicking next episode before the credits even finished rolling. My buddy Matt called me out on it, said I was basically speedrunning stories instead of experiencing them. He dared me to sit through the full credits of Severance season one and just sit with what I'd watched. I did it and it changed how I binge stuff now. The music, the silence, the time to think about what happened, it actually makes the show stick with me longer. Has anyone else tried forcing themselves to pause between episodes instead of chain watching?

I finally hit 100 custom cabinet doors without a single reject

I've been building cabinets for 5 years now and last week I finished my 100th door without the client sending one back. That's huge for me because I used to screw up at least 3 or 4 per job. I'm using a Shaper Origin now for the joinery and it's made a massive difference in consistency. Has anyone else seen their reject rate drop after switching to a CNC setup?

Question about cutting plywood for a built-in bookcase

I was building a floor to ceiling bookcase last month and kept getting tiny chips on the birch plywood face, even with a new blade. After three bad cuts, I tried putting a strip of blue painter's tape along the cut line before marking it. The blade went right through the tape and the edge was clean as a whistle. Has anyone else found a simple trick like this that actually works?

Rant: Bought a $200 paint sprayer for my kitchen cabinets and I'm split on it

I redid my kitchen last month and decided to spray the cabinet doors instead of brushing. The sprayer itself was about $200, plus another $50 for the right paint and filters. It cut the painting time for the doors down from a whole weekend to maybe six hours total. But the cleanup was a huge pain, I wasted a bunch of paint dialing it in, and my garage is still covered in a fine mist. Did the time saved make up for the mess and cost, or should I have just rolled with a brush and been done with it?

I did a reverse image search on the dog's picture and found it was a stock photo from 2019. The whole thing was a scam to get clicks and donations. I reported the page instead. A job in an old Portland house taught me to always check for balloon framing

I was cutting in a new window on the second floor last month, expecting platform framing like most houses from that era. My saw hit a continuous stud running from the basement to the attic, and I realized it was balloon framed. That meant I had to install fire blocking in the wall cavity before I could close it up, which added about 3 hours to the job. In my experience, you find this a lot in homes built before 1930, but I got lazy and didn't check the basement first. That friend who told me to glue my deck box shut during a game night

Last time I ignored my buddy's advice about "just pulling harder" I snapped the hinge off my old plastic deck box and sent cards flying across the living room. 35 cards took me an hour to find, and one was under the couch with a big old shoe print on it. Then I tried the acetone thing and accidentally melted a corner of the box because I let it sit too long. So now I just keep my sleeves in a ziploc bag and call it a day. It's not pretty but at least I don't need a toolbox to get to my cards anymore.

Swapped a 3/8 trowel for a 1/2 inch on a fireplace job

Honestly, that 3/8 to 1/2 inch swap makes total sense. I remember reading an article from a tiling magazine a few years back that said stone veneer is thirsty for mortar, way more than regular tile. Ngl, you probably would have wasted the whole day fighting with that 3/8 if your buddy hadn't showed up. Sounds like the coverage was just too thin to grab onto the stone's rough back. Good on you for listening to advice and making the switch, it's always the little things that save a job.
