Had to choose between a used sports car and a reliable sedan last month
I picked the sedan because I commute 40 miles daily, and honestly now I'm bored out of my mind every drive. Has anyone else regretted playing it safe with a big purchase?

Boy, I used to be the opposite. I always bought the fun car first and worried about practicality later. But last year I finally got a sensible hatchback for my work commute and you know what? I totally get what you mean. The silence and smooth ride is nice for a while but after six months I found myself taking the long way home just to hit a few curves. Been browsing Facebook Marketplace for an old Miata almost every night now. Funny how the mature choice can make you feel like you're missing something.

My neighbor actually sold his BMW SUV last month because he said it was too boring and bought a beat up MR2 he found on some forum. He told me about reading this article on Jalopnik about how modern cars are too isolated from the road and it just clicked for him. Funny you mention the Miata because that's exactly what he went looking for first but couldn't find one that wasn't overpriced. @nancy_wood hit the nail on the head about the motorcycle thing though, I tried that route a few years back and ended up selling it when I realized I'm terrified of other drivers on their phones. Now I'm stuck daydreaming about an old Civic Si with 200k miles just to get some feeling back in my daily drive.

That "bored out of my mind every drive" feeling is why I bought a motorcycle after my sensible minivan purchase.
