PSA: I was dead wrong about meal prep containers being a waste of money

For years I thought meal prep containers were just another way for people to spend cash on plastic junk. I used to just throw leftovers in whatever bowl was clean and call it good. Then I started a new job back in March that has me working 10 hour shifts with no real lunch break. After three weeks of eating cold rice out of a tupperware that leaked in my bag I caved and bought a set of 12 glass containers for $35. Turns out having uniform lids that actually seal and stack neatly in the fridge changes everything. I can prep on Sunday and grab a container each morning without thinking. My food stays fresh for five days and I stopped wasting money on takeout. Has anyone else found a random purchase that actually saved you time and cash?

Glass ones are the move. Had the same problem with cheap plastic lids cracking after a month. Dropped $40 on a set of glass containers with the snap-lock lids and it paid for itself in two weeks just from not buying gas station food during double shifts. Biggest thing nobody tells you is you can throw them straight in the oven if you take the lid off, so I reheat stuff without dirtying another dish.

Gotta say, @nathankim, you convinced me to finally throw out my warped plastic lids last weekend. I was getting real tired of microwaving soup and having the lid pop off halfway through, leaving a mess everywhere. Got a set of glass ones from Target on sale and honestly, the oven trick is a game changer for lazy nights when I don't want to wash an extra dish. I just dump leftovers straight into the container now, no need to transfer to a plate or bowl. Plus they don't smell like last week's spaghetti after a wash, which is a huge upgrade. Did you ever accidentally melt a plastic lid in the microwave too, or was that just me being dumb?

And once you're spoiled with glass containers, plastic ones feel like a downgrade across the board.
