The thing people mess up when trimming a palm tree is really bugging me lately
I was helping my dad clean up his Mexican fan palms in Phoenix last Saturday and he kept cutting the fronds way too close to the trunk. That leaves a wound that can rot and attract bugs, you know? He argued with me about it for like 20 minutes before we looked up a video from the local extension office. Has anyone else run into neighbors or family who swear they know the right way to trim trees but are actually doing it backwards?

My neighbor Bob cut his sago palm so bad it died three months later.

My uncle once tried to "rescue" a plant by moving it into more sun and it just... gave up. Three months later it was a brown stick. Bob probably had good intentions, sago palms are just dramatic.

Are we really acting like a sago palm is some irreplaceable piece of the ecosystem? Bob probably just trimmed it back and nature did its thing, three months is a long time to blame him for it.
