TIL a stranger on here told me my résumé was too vague and it got me two interviews
Six months ago I posted my résumé in a thread asking for honest help, and one reply stuck with me. The person said every bullet I wrote was too general, like "helped with customer issues" and "handled daily tasks," and that a hiring manager in Columbus could not picture what I did all day. So I rewrote the whole thing and put real numbers in it: 40 calls a day, cut a backlog from 300 tickets to about 60 in three weeks, and trained 4 new hires on the phone system. I also started each line with a plain action word instead of "responsible for." It took me maybe two hours on a Sunday and felt a little strange bragging about myself, but the difference in replies was quick. Two places called me within a week after months of silence, and one interviewer said my page was easy to skim, which I never would have guessed mattered. Has anyone else gotten a tip like that from a random person online that ended up making a real difference?
