I finally got a sharp shot of Saturn after a guy at the local star party said to stop zooming
An older guy at the Riverside park star party in Mesa pointed at my screen and said I was zooming in too far on my phone mount, and that I should keep the tripod still and use the 10mm eyepiece instead. I tried it on a clear night and got the rings clean for the first time after about 40 blurry tries over two weeks. What is the one tip that fixed your planetary shots for good?
Stop zooming" hit me right in the ego because I spent a whole summer doing the exact opposite. I'd crank the digital zoom on my phone until Saturn was a giant blurry blob and tell myself the seeing was bad. Turns out I was just photographing a smudge at 40x zoom. My fix was the same thing your park guy said, plus turning off autofocus and locking it manually. Two years of "bad seeing" was really just me fighting my own settings. How long did it take you to trust the 10mm after all those blurry tries?
