PSA: A dead intervalometer battery just wiped my entire night's astro shots

Was out capturing the Cygnus region last night. My intervalometer's battery died without any warning. The camera stopped after only 30 minutes out of a 4-hour plan. All my subs from that session are useless now. I always carry extra batteries for my camera, but forgot the intervalometer. From now on, I'm checking all battery levels before heading out. Don't make the same mistake I did.

I mean, I never checked mine either, but this changes things.

Right? I never checked mine either. What made you change your mind about it?

Checking batteries is a good start, but it's still relying on old tech that can fail. I switched to a wired intervalometer that plugs into a USB power bank. That thing runs for days on a single charge. It costs a bit more upfront, but never losing a night of data is worth every penny. Relying on a tiny button cell feels like asking for trouble. A simple cable setup removes the weakest link entirely.
