Random reddit comment made me fix my star stacking
Somebody said my Milky Way mosaic had tram lines from not dithering enough between frames. I went from 5 pixel dithers to 20 pixel ones and the gradient literally vanished overnight.

Yeah that makes sense, I mean small dithers barely even register in the sensor noise floor.

Iris, I get what you're asking, but @williamhenderson made a good point about the noise floor. In my experience, those little dithers can sometimes add up over time and throw off your calibration if you ignore them. Your mileage may vary, but I've seen it happen enough to not brush them off completely.
