That $200 star tracker mount collects dust in my closet now

Last spring I drove all the way out to Big Bend National Park with a brand new star tracker mount, thought it would be the thing that finally got me those deep sky shots everyone posts here. Spent a full night fighting with polar alignment, the little LED circle never lined up right, and my phone app kept glitching. By 2am I had about 12 blurry frames of Orion that looked worse than my old 15 second exposures on a plain tripod. The thing was $200 with shipping, and I've used it maybe twice since, both times just to remind myself how much I hate the setup process. I know people swear by these things and I'm probably doing something dumb, but has anyone else found that a basic DSLR on a fixed tripod gets you 80% of the way for way less headache? Or is there a specific brand or model that actually works straight out of the box?

Honestly that 2am frustration might be the real issue here, not the mount itself. I mean, I found my old tracker way more usable once I stopped trying to do the full polar alignment dance and just used a rough eyeball it method with a wide lens, the stars can drift a bit and it still beats a fixed tripod for stacking. Not saying the $200 model is great out of the box, but sometimes the problem is we expect perfect precision when the gear just needs us to work with its slop.
